Fred Minion is a Conservative Republican, and US Representative from Chesapeake's first district. Fred is a former RNC Chair. Fred won that chair election before the 2026 primary. He believes in working with both parties to get things done. He started out as a Republican before switching parties. He created with Phil Reed the United Freedom Party before joining the Democrats. He resigned because of pressure from the media, before returning to the House. He was also interim DNC chair after Harvey Fisch resigned to be Phil Reed's running mate. He wrote and got passed the "East Palestine Buckeye Act", a bipartisan bill that holds Norfolk Southern responsible for their train crash. Fred also wrote a bill to house veterans better. He enjoys watching sports when he is not working. His dad, David Minion was also the legendary governor of Chesapeake from 1976-1994. One of his brothers is a state representative in Appalachia, and another brother is a state senator in Cascade. Minion also ran for House Majority Leader when he was with the GOP in the 118th Congress, but he lost to Rep. John Shake. Minion ran for House Dems Leader (Majority/Minority Leader) in the 119th Congress, but lost to Anwar McKenney Jr. Minion was in the Chesapeake State House, Chesapeake State Senate, and former Lieutenant Governor of the state under Former Governor Brendan Arthur from 2014-2018 before running for Chesapeake State Senate. Minion was going to run for the 2025 House Minority Leader (GOP) because there will be a speaker election, and GOP House Leadership elections. He is unopposed in his race for Minority Leader. He was the House GOP Conference Chair during the 120th Congress. Now in the 121st Congress, he is the House Majority Leader.
