The 2028 Mari El State Duma elections were held on January 5th, 2028 to elect the Head of the Republic along with members of the State Duma, these were the first elections in the Republic since 2017 and were considered to be among the first free elections in Russia. Opposition Parties gained a majority in the State Duma.
