All 5 seats in Senate Class 1 were up for election. The winners of the Senate elections were sworn in on January 3, 2023, for the 118th U.S. Congress. Going into the election, Republicans held 6 seats, Democrats held 5 seats and the other 5 seats were vacant. In the Senate elections, Democrats gained 4 seats while Republicans gained only 1, giving democrats control of the Senate.
